David D. Olds, M.D.

David D. Olds is Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons. He is a Training and Supervising Analyst at the Columbia Psychoanalytic Center, and has been an increasingly active teacher over the past twenty years. He served as Treasurer of the Center from 1981-91. He is a Founding Member and a member of the Board of Directors of the Berkshire Psychoanalytic Institute in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Currently he is a Co-Editor of the journal, Neuro-Psychoanalysis. Dr. Olds is a Founding Board Member of the Hope for Depression Research Fondation. A major interest of his has been the integration of psychoanalysis with other scientific disciplines. Since 1992, he has been organizing the evolving Fourth-Year Theory Course at the Columbia Psychoanalytic Center, devoted to the exploration of the potential connections between psychoanalysis and other disciplines, including semiotics, neuroscience, evolutionary psychology, genetics, and primatology. His published papers have appeared in the Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association, Neuro-Psychoanalysis, Psychoanalysis and Contemporary Thought, Psychoanalytic Inquiry, and PubMed.
